Ellis Island Casino Website (via Lionfish)

SHORTCUT

If you are busy with multiple portfolio reviews, then let's not waste any of your precious time. Skip the background story and jump straight into the details of the assignment -- starting with the company background.

Ellis Island Casino is a Las Vegas lodging and gaming establishment that specializes in providing a casino experience that emphasizes a locals-first approach. Amongst people who are local to the Las Vegas metropolitan, Ellis Island Casino is widely recognized as the go-to spot for people in the area who want a nice night out over frequenting any of the local tourist traps. In July of 2021, Ellis Island approached The Lionfish Company regarding a potential site re-design project. I was tapped to work as a designer alongside a coder and a digital strategist, to help bring the project home.

Unlike many websites that are built today, Ellis Island’s website was built using WebFlow. In the end, though we were able to transfer much of our existing WordPress skillset over to WebFlow, I think that there is something to be said for avoiding tools that are not standardized solutions in the design space.

Ultimately, the choice of builder is not a decision that The Lionfish had available to them. Ellis Island specifically requested that they use WebFlow for their website. That being said, despite the value of learning a new design platform, I am still relatively convinced that the juice is not worth the squeeze when it comes to robust enterprise solutions.
