While on the job, it is not uncommon to encounter someone else who is a photography or videography enthusiast trying to get into the trade. To this, I always say that those interested in photography should do their best to attempt it as a hobby. Understandably, however, one of the major limiting factors for most is the overall cost of equipment that it takes to produce great shots. Hell, even the basic rigs that I have grown accustomed to using probably would have been considered well outside of my financial reach when I first started in videography—so I definitely understand how being in that position can be frustrating when you are trying to begin, and make qualitatively good things.
.Luckily, however, because videography and photography are ever-changing spaces, both industries tend to have robust markets for used and second-hand camera gear. But with everything from faulty items, to grifters, and outright price gougers, how do you know what is a good deal to come by—hell, how do you even know where to find the good deals?
.Fortunately for us, Hyun Ralph Jeong has recently posted a video detailing how he goes about buying used camera gear online. Detailing everything from places to go, to what types of ads to look for, to what is considered a “good deal,” Jeong does an outstanding job of systematically laying out steps for how anyone can take advantage of the massive used camera gear market that exists online. While I’m sure there is more I can say, the video is 17 minutes long, and worth every second of your time if you are interested in saving money on camera equipment. Check it out now, or save it for later—you won’t be disappointed. (via Fstoppers)
