What is Lair Media?

Lair Media is a freelance UI/UX and communications production design business run by me, Cliff Lesley, in the North Carolina Triangle. I use my creative, analytical, and strategic skill sets to help individuals and businesses create content and branded experiences that cultivate a base of engaged customers.

What is communications production design?

Communications production design is an intersectional creative specialization that combines the disciplines of communications design, videography, photography, and writing into a self-contained, vertically-integrated process.

Put Another Way, I’m a “Full Stack” Information Designer

Or a “cross-functional” one, depending on the cool kid you’re talking to. But just as much as a full-stack developer is capable of ideating, prototyping, and coding an application project, a full-stack information designer can write, design, and produce assets for a communications project.

Though that can be an advertisement or marketing collateral—websites, documentaries, and mobile applications are places where communications live too. The role of communications production design is to get a grapple on the processes that govern these projects, to deliver communications experiences that are thoughtful, consistent, and visually attractive.

Content

Content creation is the set of practices that organize the ideation, production and implementation of communications in both analogue and digital environments. In communications production design, content leads the design process, and dictates which information should be prioritized in a user-facing experience.

Design

Design is the set of practices that are used to synthesize user needs into a series of deliberate, organized, and scientifically predictable creative outcomes. My work dictates that the design process follows the content creation process to ensure that creative decisions are deliberate, and responsive to the information needs of a user facing experience.
